Brass Jewellery Care Instructions

Brass jewellery, like most metal jewellery, dislikes being wet. Get it even slightly wet, and before you know it, a brown patina will start to appear. Even so, a lot of individuals enjoy the slightly old, worn-in appearance of brass that has developed a little patina. Keep your brass dry, though, if you want it to shine like gold.

No matter how hard you work to keep your brass jewellery dry, the sweat and oils from your skin will eventually cause a patina. With some caution, you can, nevertheless, significantly postpone the inevitable.

Polish your brass jewellery every day with the included polishing pad to preserve the colour and gloss.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR BRASS JEWELLERY

Brass is a beautiful material, but it tends to tarnish due to its reaction with air and everyday chemicals. Tarnishing varies depending on your skin, care, and environment - but don’t worry! With a few simple tips, you can keep your jewellery sparkling for years to come.

SAFE STORAGE Keep your brass jewellery dry and sealed in a plastic bag (an anti-tarnish bag is perfect) otherwise use a resealable bag, squeeze out as much of the extra air as you can and include an anti-tarnish strip in the bag.

GENERAL WEAR Always put your jewellery on last: The chemicals in creams, makeup, perfume etc speed up the tarnishing process and can damage your jewellery.

REMOVE DURING EXERCISE/SWIMMING -Take your jewellery off when exercising, cooking, or in humid environments like saunas or hot tubs. Sweat, steam, and humidity can accelerate tarnishing. -Take your jewellery off before getting into water especially chlorinated pools and hot tubs as this will discolour your jewellery. -Always avoid wearing in seawater.

WEAR IT Wearing and touching your brass piece will actually help prevent tarnish. The natural oils/acids from our skin help rub off and delay some tarnish.

AVOID CHEMICALS Remove your jewellery when cleaning, washing dishes, or doing laundry, as household products will change the look of your jewellery.

Brass jewellery is extremely durable and can be passed down generation after generation. These care tips will help your special piece last a lifetime.

CLEANING YOUR BRASS JEWELLERY

Brass naturally acquires a patina that enhances its character and beauty as it ages. To achieve a natural ‘living’ look, simply refrain from polishing and allow oxygen along with your natural body chemistry to create the finish. If you wish to highlight its stunning shine, consider following some of the tips outlined below.

POLISHING PADS Pre-treated 2" squares are great for polishing up brass. They are perfect for quickly removing oxidisation and patina. Giving your piece a lovely shine. The cloth can be reused many times even after it turns black. Using a new cloth only when you see it no longer shines your piece.

AVOID!! -Avoid using bleach, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals, as they can discolour or damage the brass. -Do not use abrasive materials such as steel wool or harsh scrubbing pads, as they can scratch the surface of the brass and remove its protective coating.

SOAP & WATER For regular maintenance, sometimes the simplest method is the best. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and gently wipe your jewellery. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely with a soft cloth. (this is unlikely to remove patina)

VINEGAR & SALT Mix equal parts white vinegar and salt to create a paste. Apply the paste to your brass jewellery and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry completely.

Please do your own research before attempting any cleaning methods to ensure you are using the correct method for the piece.
